Side Support Bras
What is a Side Support Bra?
A side support bra is a medium or full coverage bra built with additional support to provide security and anchorage. The support comes through sectioned cups, side panels and strong side wings.
Side support panels add strength to the cup edges, ensuring uplift and forward projection. Referred to as panels or wings, they’re near the underarm and prevent unwanted overspill, guaranteeing a smooth silhouette by pushing the breast tissue to the centre of the cups.
Although side support bras are designed around providing support and security, they don’t always compromise on style. Some side support bras feature lace on the side wings, or even have side panels made in a contrasting colour or fabric.
Key Features of a Side Support Bra:
- Side wings. Side wings are a wider piece of fabric that forms over the underarm and joins to the straps at the back. Other styles have a more narrow underband, lying straight across the back.
- Side panels, which are a strengthened section of the cup that joins the straps at the apex.
- Three or four section panels, which form the bra cups. Four-section cups have a panel at the side, which strengthens the bra and provides the additional side support.
- Added boning in the wing for firm support and strength.
- Wider straps to lift the breasts and prevent strap slippage.
What Does a Side Support Bra Do?
Side support bras provide the optimal support and lift you need when you’ve got a fuller shape or larger breasts. The additional features strengthen the bra and push the breast tissue to the centre, giving your boobs forward projection. Side support bras prevent any unwanted spillage at the sides and give a smooth silhouette.
Due to the nature of a side support bra, they’re best suited to women with fuller busts and shapes. Most are a full cup, which covers the entire breast, meaning that not everyone is guaranteed to fill it. Side support bras usually come alongside another feature, meaning that you can get moulded side support bras, side support t-shirt bras, side support minimiser bras and even side support plunge bras.
What is the Best Bra For Side Support?
A test recommended by Fantasie to see whether you’d benefit from a side support bra is to reach your arms out in front of you and pretend you’re moving a steering wheel. If you feel any kind of friction at the side of your arms, then a side support bra could be the one for you. Alternatively, if you feel like there’s too much movement, it’s probably worth getting measured again and dropping a bra size.
